Urmylla Radha Krishnan started learning Bharata Natyam at the age of 6
and still enjoys dancing today. Over the years, the Temple of Fine Arts
(TFA) has exposed her to many different dance styles. She has had the
pleasure of learning Odissi, Kathak, little bits of Kathakali,
Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Contemporary dance. She has taken
part in many TFA productions performing these various styles.
Urmylla has also learnt Veena and Carnatic Vocal and performed in TFA’s
various music performances.
She graduated from the Temple of Fine Arts in Kuala Lumpur in 1997,
soon after which she moved to Perth to complete her university degree.
She now works as a cake artist, running her own business.
Urmylla has been teaching Bharata Natyam theory since 1999 in Perth,
and enjoys teaching it. Her main aim for teaching theory is so that her
students understand the subtleties of the dance style and will be able
to speak confidently about Bharata Natyam.
