Asian Vegetarian Cooking Course for School Children

Paachaka Druta: Asian Vegetarian cooking course for school age participants

Asian vegetarian cooking course  tailored to introduce school going children and teenagers, to the Flavours of Indian and   East and South East Asian Vegetarian Cuisine. Each course will be run x2/week over 1 week.  A cooking session will last 31/2  hours, inclusive of cleaning up.

The course will be offered to 2 age groups. All participants will be required to sign an indemnity statement before undertaking the classes.

Learning outcomes:

  • The essentials of cooking for wellness and health
  • How to vary a theme – how to change the taste according to the ingredients added.
  • How to present food in an interesting manner.

 

Group 1: Paachaka Druta 1 - Ages 7 to 12 years

Tuesday 15th April and Thursday 17th April- . 1 PM to 4 PM. (Public holidays in April 18, 19, 21, 25- no contact days)

Availability: Only 4 places available

Prerequisite – aged between 7 years to 12 years

  • Must have some minimal knife skills
  • Interest in cooking.
  • Minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 participants
  • In view of the age group involved- the course will target fresh preparations, grating ingredients, minimise cutting.
  • There will be minimal use of hot oil involved in the cooing process. Close supervision will be provided

 

Cost :   Cost : $25.00/ session. each session is over 3 hours. Total cost for 2 sessions $50.00

Please note Confirmation of enrolment is on receipt of full course fee. If more than one child in the family is involved – there is a concession of $5.00 per session.      

 

Course details:

Session 1 – Indian cuisine e.g.

  • Indian roti, chapatti  – griddle pan cooking.
  • Sweet raita, savoury raita- yoghurt based fresh preparations.
  • Health drink – lassi.

Session 2 – Asian cuisine e.g.

  • Rice paper rolls
  • Free form vegetable sushi
  • Stir fry noodles

Paachaka Druta 2 - Ages 13 to 17 years

Tuesday 22nd April and Thursday 24th April. 1pm  – 4 pm”

  • Dhal –   tadka dhal,
  • Vegetable side dishes –  raita /  thoran
  • Yoghurt drink –  lassi

 

Session  2 – Asian vegetarian  cuisine  e.g.

  • Chinese  stir fry  noodles
  • Chinese  stir fry vegetables.
  • Vietnamese  Rice paper rolls.
